STEEL CHANNEL
COLUMN LOAD DATA

gs015b.gif (5161 bytes)

Application of data:Loads shown apply to G-3812-A regular steel channel combination with the load applied to one of the continuous-slotted sides. Unlike single channel, lip restraint is not needed in either slot.

Uniform Loads: See table below.

Concentrated Loads: Allowable concentrated loads can be obtained by dividing the uniform load by two. Deflection for the concentrated load can be found by multiplying the deflection of the uniform load by .08.

The distance between beams positioned on any one axis of the column, or total height of the column if beams are positioned on only one axis of the columns: loads shown assume column to be steel, regular channel only. Check column strength for both.

  1. Allowable loading on greatest unbraced height.
  2. Allowable loading on unbraced height at base of column, where maximum load occurs.
